Soleil Royal
History
The Soleil Royal, or the “Royal Sun,” was a French 104 gun ship of the French Armada, and was the flagship of Admiral Tourville. The Soleil Royal was built in Brest and finished in 1671 by Laurent Hubac, and immediately commissioned to be the flagship of the Squadron of the Ponat. Said to be a good sailing ship, the decorations adorning the Soleil Royal were among the most elaborate and beautiful of all flagships of the baroque era. The “sun” emblem was chosen by King Louis XIV as his own personal icon.
In 1692 the Soleil Royal led a 45 vessel fleet and met a 97 ship strong English and Dutch armada in the Battle of Barfleur. Despite being sorely outnumbered, the French attacked, decimating enemy lines and forcing enemy ships to flee.
After the victory, the Soleil Royal was put into port in Cherbourg for repairs. During the night of June 2, 1692, English and Dutch fireships set the stern of the Soleil Royal on fire. The blazing inferno soon reached the powder rooms and the Soleil Royal, Flagship of the French Armada, burst into the night sky. There were virtually no survivors left during the massacre. What’s left of the Soleil Royal’s remains now lay buried under a parking spot next to the Arsenal.

ENDEAVOUR Price only € 780

Endeavour
Endeavour - See the fine art of underwater ship,
it is build with small copper tiles.
HMS ENDEAVOUR - In the years 1768-1771, British sailor Captain James Cook used the Endeavour to sail the Pacific Ocean, map New Zealand and survey the eastern coast of Australia. Captain Cook discovered New Zealand and the East Coast of Australia and claimed both for Britain. He was also the first person to circumnavigate the world in both directions. His ship was HMS Endeavour. Endeavour eventually ended up becoming part of the British fleet used during the Revolutionary War.
HMS Endeavour was intentionally sunk by the British in Newport Harbor, Rhode Island in 1778 to keep French ships from landing to aid the Americans' drive for independence. The American/French rebellion against the British failed.
Four ships from a British fleet used during the U.S. Revolutionary War have been found off Rhode Island, and one may be the vessel 18th century explorer Captain James Cook sailed on his epic voyage to Australia, archaeologists said today.
Researchers with the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project said they believe the four ships, and two others previously discovered, are part of a 13-vessel transport fleet intentionally sunk by the British in Newport Harbor in 1778 to keep French ships from landing to aid the Americans' drive for independence.
The archaeologists say one of the 13 ships in the sunken British fleet was the Lord Sandwich, which records show was once the Endeavour but Archaeologists say it is unclear which ship could be the Endeavour. Seven of the ships in the British fleet have not been found but the archaeologists say the latest find raises the chances that one of the discovered ships is the Endeavour.
According to the executive director of the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project there is a 47 per cent chance that we have our hands on the Endeavour. It may take years to fully investigate the shipwrecks.
Using historical materials and sonar, the archaeologists discovered the ships in Narragansett Bay, about a kilometer off Newport. They also found at least one cannon, an anchor with a five-meter shank and a cream-colored fragment of an 18th century British ceramic teapot. Historically, the finding is significant because it helps tell the story of the siege of Newport, marking France's first attempt to aid the American insurrection against the British.
The shipwrecks are Rhode Island property and there are no plans to raise them.
Officials estimate more than two dozen ships from the Revolutionary War period lie beneath Rhode Island's waters. They include British Royal Navy frigates, vessels from the Continental Navy and a French ship.

FLYING CLOUD Price only € 680

Flying Cloud
History
Built for Enoch Train of Boston and sold to Grinnell, Minturn & Company, of New York, Flying Cloud was one of the fastest—if not the fastest—clipper ship ever launched. The largest merchant sailing ship afloat until the launch of Challenge. The Flying Cloud is just the kind of vehicle, or whatever else it may be called, that a sensible man would choose for a ninety days voyage.
Under command of the hard-driving Josiah P. Cressy, she departed New York on June 2, 1851, and arrived at San Francisco on August 31 after a record run of only 89 days, 21 hours. Only a handful of ships ever made the same passage in under 100 days; the average time for all clipper ships was more than 120 days, and for full-built merchant ships 150 days or more. It was quite remarkable, then, when three years later Flying Cloud bettered her own time on the same run by 13 hours. Her time of 89 days, 8 hours, anchor to anchor, stood as the record until 1860 when Andrew Jackson sailed the same course in 89 days, 4 hours. (The record of 89 days under sail stood until bettered by the high-performance racing sloop Thursday's Child in 1988-89.)
